As vast as empires, and as slow”
(to misquote the metaphysical poet Andrew Marvell)….
Well, we all have to start somewhere to learn to love our veggies – and this summer, Spaxton was a good place to start …
To explain, Spaxton is a modest little village in the Quantocks, with one great event each year – The Flower Show! It’s so much more than flowers, beautiful as they may be…. It’s also lots of vegetables, massive onions, round courgettes, and creativity. The children’s contributions in my view stole the show – and it’s great that children get to grow vegetables and flowers, as well as make interesting stuff with them – like the lovely vegetable men – well done Maximus Aydin for creating this friendly chap….
It’s also three-legged races, the under-5s sprint, potato-and-spoon race (eggs are too precious) and cream teas in the village hall to the jolly sounds of the village yukele band! It is community spirit, having a day of enjoyment. Spaxton deserves every congratulation for its efforts, which have now resulted in a community shop which sits next to the village hall in its smart wooden premises. I can even get raw cacao powder there!
So let’s spread the word – love your veggies, your flowers, and your community!
