I was recently invited to run a raw food workshop by Elizabeth Bray of Meare Court Farm, near Taunton. Liz is a professional nutritionist, and runs a nutritional school at her farmhouse, where she also has a number of very beautifully converted self-catering holiday cottages and the gorgeous old farmhouse itself. So it was a very lovely for our gathering of half a dozen people interested in learning more about incorporating raw food into their lifestyle and health maintenance programmes. And what fun we had!
I aimed to cover what a healthy day’s menu might be using raw food. This would ideally start with a green juice, and then we covered the many and varied uses and value of homemade hempmilk, which served both as a replacement ‘cappucino’ with added superfoods, a breakfast smoothie, a chia pudding which we kept for lunchtime, as well as a day long drink to provide protein, hydration and a whole range of optional superfoods. Its just so versatile! And I love sharing the exciting benefits of the amazing superfoods we now have access to…
After that, we all prepared a big salad which included some fermented food in the form of sauerkraut, contributed by one of the group, (and very delicious it was too!), green leaves, a luscious dressing, herbs from the garden, and soaked sunflower seed mayonnaise, which topped some spiralised veg towers. I shared the recipe for the ‘cheeze’ kale crisps (cashew cheese) and dehydrated onion bread that I brought along. And we finished the afternoon with a raw cake and chocolates… and everyone went home with a set of recipes including raw soups for the evening, as a perfect finish to their ‘Healthy Day’ …
Liz and I are now planning some more workshop dates … so watch this space….
