Valentine’s Treat: Superfood Hemp Protein Balls

Posted on February 14th, 2016

These delicious chocolate hemp protein balls will fill you with lurve… for yourself, if no-one else! You might have to fight off others from devouring them though..

The hemp and chia in these will give you a protein energy boost, while the cacao will produce those happy neurochemicals which explain why chocolate, Valentine’s and love go so well together. And pumpkin seeds are a good source of zinc, which is very good for, well, what men need…(as is maca, also good for balancing female hormones)… And coconut oil is just, good for everything!

Ingredients :

  •  ½ cup almonds, organic, raw, unsalted
  • ¼ cup pumpkin seeds, raw, organic, unsalted
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/3 cup hemp protein powder
  • 2 tbsp maca powder
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon powder
  • 3 tbsp raw organic cacao powder or ground cacao nibs 2½ cups medjool dates, pitted
  • 1 tbsp melted coconut oil (if needed)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

      1. Grind almonds, pumpkin and chia seeds in a high speed processor or blender, until they form a loose crumble, (not a fine flour).

  1. Add in the powders and salt, and blend briefly to mix. Then add in the dates, a few at a time, until the mixture starts to combine into a ball. You may need more or less dates to achieve this – it will depend on how dry or large they are.  If the mixture stays crumbly, add a tbsp of melted coconut oil.
  2. Take out a tbsp at a time of the dough, and roll into a ball. (Alternatively, flatten onto a sheet of cling film in a rectangular baking tray). Allow to set in the fridge.

Store for 10 days in the fridge, or they will last much longer in the freezer.
